The runway was a playground of extravagance as models strutted their stuff, flaunting shoulder-grazing waterfall earrings that could double as modern art installations – each studded with colossal jewels that dared to defy gravity. Let’s not forget the faux manicure statement rings consisting of oversized crystals! The Italian luxury fashion house isn’t just raising the bar; they’ve taken that bar, bedazzled it, and turned it into the ‘It’ chandelier of the season – a shining reminder that sometimes, more really is more, and going big isn’t just an option, it’s a fabulous obligation.

FENDI: In a spectacular fashion fusion, Fendi’s Fall 2023 Couture runway became a jewelry jubilee like no other. Kim Jones, the mastermind behind the couture concoction, didn’t just draw inspiration from Delfina Delettrez Fendi’s presence as a muse but drew heavily on her debut high jewelry collection. Jones boldly declared, “We worked on a template based on Delfina’s high jewelry. If there is no jewelry, the idea is still present through the color palette (ruby reds, black diamonds, and dark blue sapphires) and embellishment in the collection; the clothes themselves take on the idea of jewelry.” Jones turned Delettrez’s latest masterpiece, the “Fendi Triptych,” into the star of the show. If you look closely there are subtle references to house emblems abound, from a rectangular baguette-cut stone – a nod to Fendi’s Baguette bag, to gem-set FF motifs hidden in necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings.

Jewelry Details from Dior & Louis Vuitton Fall Winter 2022 Menswear Collections

Is the pearl necklace à la Harry Styles over for men? According to fashion houses Louis Vuitton and Dior, it is. For their 2022 menswear collections, LV and Dior are showing men new ways to adorn their necks and ears by frosting them with ice!

LOUIS VUITTON: It was all about embellishing the ear at Louis Vuitton. Models strutted down the runway wearing dramatic crystal caged ear cuffs, jet black arachnid ear crawlers, and colorful quatrefoil stud earrings from their iconic monogram print. Necks featured large statement necklaces of graffiti-esque style shrooms and LV logos.

DIOR: The French house took more of a delicate approach to their icy jewels. Ears were graced with glittering crystal starry stud earrings. Velvet chokers with edgy gilded thorn branches hanging down and CD embossed crystal necklaces were also part of the jewelry mix. Dior’s Menswear Artistic Director Kim Jones even tapped Creative Director of Dior Jewelry Victoire de Castellane to create a “CD” Deco-inspired bracelet of diamonds and emeralds.

But what we truly loved was the Lily of the Valley ear cuff -A flower that Dior’s mother carefully raised in their Granville’s Eden-like garden. This delicate blossom became one of the designer’s good-luck charms, worn in his buttonhole or sewn into the hems of his haute couture designs.

Jewelry Details From Gucci Fall 2021 RTW Collection

As Gucci turns 100 this year Alessandro Michele decided to celebrate the label’s milestone with a little help from his friend Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia.

The result? Jewels that consisted of branded nose rings, body chains, and even fine jewelry reflective of Michele’s maximalist magpie style.

When interviewed by Vogue UK, Michele noted his deeply sentimental attachment to jewels and it was inevitable that he would turn to create a high jewelry collection for Gucci. “If Gucci is a piece of my soul, then it must have jewelry too,” he said.

“I was inspired by the idea that you were opening the safety deposit box of an old lady and it was full of beautiful things from different eras,” he says.

Michele does not feel any pressure to stay ahead of the times, as some jewelry houses do. “They’re afraid to be similar to something that belongs to the past,” he says. “It’s like they feel guilty, but I don’t. Why can’t we play with things from another era and add color and contrast and unusual gemstones?”

“By mixing the colors, you give life to every single stone,” says Michele. For him, the selection of a stone is about the gut-punching intensity of its color and clarity. “A beautiful tourmaline can be better than an emerald.”

But what’s most important to note about all the jewelry at Gucci regardless of the season is that Alessandro has always created gems that are designed to be worn by men and women alike. “It’s crazy to say that men and women’s jewelry must be different,” says Michele, pointing to the Georgian aristocrats bedecked in diamonds and the Indian maharajahs who descended on Place Vendôme in the early 20th century with caskets of precious gems to be turned into fashionable creations.
