We’ve got your dose of celebrity jewelry news from Rihanna’s new Cameo jewelry line celebrating the beauty of black women to Jay-Z’s insane Rolex watch invites to this year’s Shawn Carter Foundation gala.
RIHANNA: What else can Rihanna do? She can now add jewelry designer to her resume. Riri just launched a line of Fenty cameo jewelry celebrating the beauty of black women. The line of pendants, rings, and earrings feature glass and black resin cameos (women profiles) surrounded by pearls and Swarovski crystals and retail between $340 and $530. So why is this so significant? According to Town&Country Magazine, the cameo pieces honor “a new more contemporary heroine” and were presented in a series of “family portraits” by Nigerian-raised, Yorkshire-based photographer Ruth Ossai. Teen Vogue explained a bit more about the history behind Cameo jewelry from the brand, writing, “Cameo jewelry has been worn as a statement of intent, belief or power. In ancient Greece, young women wore cameos bearing the portrait of Eros, the God of Love, to express their sexuality, or Medusa with her snake hair to ward off demons. Though FENTY’s cameo features a black woman’s profile, the collection is not about a singular definition of beauty; she symbolizes the beauty of difference. The cameo is an emblem of fearlessness, elevation, creativity, and joy – everything FENTY stands for.” Read more on the history of cameos on Vogue.com
JAY-Z: As Jay-Z kicked off the Shawn Carter Foundation Gala weekend which included a high-stakes poker tournament on Friday night (November 15) the “4:44” musician sent VIP guests Rolex watch invites.
So who was lucky enough to get one of these gold Rolex Daytonas valued at around $40,000? Musicians such as Meek Mill and Alicia Keys’ husband Swizz Beatz. The event which ended on Saturday night with dinner and drinks raised $6 million.
On a side note can we just do a shout out to Beyonce’s Lorraine Schwartz earrings? Bey was rocking a huge pair of diamond and emerald interlocking mesh earrings and rings from her favorite jeweler. Thoughts on the gems???
