This isn’t the first time Valli has shown high-end jewels with his Couture confections on the runway. If you remember back to last year, the designer teamed up with jewelry store Eleuteri and decked out his frothy tulle creations with an array of vintage jewels from David Webb to Bulgari.
This time for Giambattista Valli’s Fall 2018 Couture collection the designer has partnered with jewelry powerhouse Chopard. It was a win-win combination for both brands.
Valli’s collection had a very youthful feel to it, dressing models in silk bow bandeau tops and matching pants. The designer told WWD about his new clientele: “There is a very strong sense of youth in this haute couture. Why? Because we have a lot of new generations of young girls coming and buying haute couture from all over the world, so that’s very nice and it’s very inspiring, and they have a different attitude to wearing it,” the designer explained backstage
“They have that kind of sense to wear haute couture like they are wearing jeans and a T-shirt. They don’t have any complex. There is a little bit of ghetto girls — luxury ghetto girls, whatever you want to call it — but it’s nice to have this kind of coolness,” he added.
Pairing high-end jewels like Chopard’s and styling them in ways that are untraditional like layering three diamond necklaces a la Rihanna has given his youthful and rich clientele the opportunity to purchase these baubles that they wouldn’t normally think to wear. What Valli is trying to say is that you can pile on three huge white and yellow diamond rings worth hundreds and thousands of dollars and still look chic doing it. Bottom line: These aren’t your grandma’s jewels!
