Welcome to the wonderful Surrealist world of Daniel Roseberry. Schiaparelli’s artistic director delved into the brand’s archives and created a treasure trove of eccentric pearl festooned jewelry for the brand’s Spring 2020 Couture collection. Daniel looked at Schiap’s 1930s friends and collaborators, according to Vogue.com such as Alberto Giacometti for the skeletal jewels and rhinestone “bone” embellishments and revived the eye-shaped brooch Cocteau designed for the house in 1937 as frames for coquettish brass eyewear and earrings according to the NY Times.
Schiaparelli’s favorite flower, the iris appeared on the runway alongside house icons such as the padlock and giant oversized signature letter ‘S’ earrings and brooches as well as quirky fly and Venus flytrap earrings.
But what was the designer’s favorite piece amongst the collection? According to the NY Times, it was the choker made from faux pearls and brass casts of teeth — each one embellished with diamond cavities — that resembled an Edwardian ruffled collar in shape. “It’s our demented version of the iconic pearl necklace,” he said with a grin, “To me, this is like, ‘straight to the museum.’”
So who attended the show? Kat Graham and Sophia Bush who both wore jewels from the brand’s 2020 RTW and 2019 Couture Collections.
