Who Wore What Jewels

While sparkly snakes were spotted wrapped around the necks of Ellie Goulding, Lashana Lynch, and Ariana DeBose courtesy of Bulgari, the official jewelry partner at this year’s BAFTAs, there were also a ton of jewelry surprises and delights. From a pair of budget-friendly fast fashion earrings thanks to Kate Middleton and archival gems à la Anya Taylor-Joy to sizzling and sparkling multi-million dollar diamond jewels, it was a cornucopia of jewelry styles to hit the red carpet.

MICHELLE YEOH: The Everything Everywhere All At Once nominee wore a show-stopping pair of shoulder dusting diamond and Burmese ruby (32.44 carats worth) earrings alongside an awe-inspiring rare and natural Burma pink sapphire ring. But the piece de resistance was her eye-catching bangle, comprised of 56.70 carats of cushion-shaped pink spinels with cushion-shaped pink sapphires accented with briolette and oval-shaped diamonds, all from Moussaieff Jewellers.

PAUL MESCAL: Are diamonds a girl’s best friend? Think again! The best actor nominee rocked a spectacular Cartier Tradition natural diamond brooch set in platinum and white gold from the 1930s. When interviewed by British Vogue, Mescal stated – “It’s what I always imagined I would wear if I was ever lucky enough to go to a major awards ceremony,” says Paul, who no doubt has countless red carpets in his future. “Gucci made the suit for me a while ago, it was so special I had to save it, and the BAFTAs was the perfect moment. Cartier then showed me a photo of the brooch and it was so elegant – it was the perfect combination. I love the Old Hollywood feel.”

REGÉ-JEAN PAGE: The dashing Duke of Hastings looked dapper in diamonds. The Bridgerton star wore a Boucheron brooch from the French luxury jewelry house’s Moon White necklace from the 2023 Like a Queen collection, a re-interpretation of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Boucheron diamond and aquamarine double brooch.

KATE MIDDLETON: While the Princess of Wales’ BAFTA red carpet outfit consisted of a refashioned white Grecian-inspired Alexander McQueen dress complete with full-length black velvet opera gloves, it was her bold and budget-friendly earrings that stole the show! The Cascading Flower earrings, comprised of metal with floral-shaped charms and jewel appliques are from Zara and cost just $28!

CATE BLANCHETT: Cate Blanchett and her stylist Elizabeth Stewart made a conscious red carpet choice working with Maison Margiela to rework a sleeveless dress Cate first wore to the 2015 Oscars.

Working with Louis Vuitton jewelry designer Francesca Amfitheatrof, Cate wanted a piece of jewelry comprised of materials from pre-existing jewels. What emerged was a stunning four-strand necklace composed of Tahitian pearls, gold, diamonds, and a 23.78-carat step-cut Nigerian tourmaline, all recovered and repurposed from a previous necklace design.

Amfitheatrof was the jewelry designer behind Cate’s magical Oscar jewelry look, an aquamarine, diamond, and turquoise necklace comprised of dozens of tiny stones held together with silver netting, for Tiffany & Co.’s Blue Book collection.

It was a full circle moment, recapturing the magic of her 2015 Oscar appearance on the red carpet to her 2023 BAFTA one.

NAOMI ACKIE: The English actress was all smiles while wearing a pair of Cartier high-jewelry earrings in 18k white gold featuring emeralds, black lacquer, and diamonds alongside a Reflection De Cartier ring.

HONG CHAU: We’re slightly obsessed with The Whale actress and her diamond bird earring perched on her left ear from Boucheron. A Miroirs Infini ring with an emerald-cut diamond and rock crystal, pavéd with diamonds, adorned her gloved finger.

ANGELA BASSETT: Although she wasn’t a best supporting actress winner, Bassett still won our hearts over with her Plume de Paon diamond pendant earrings in white gold and a matching ring from Boucheron.

JULIANNE MOORE: Perfection! Need we say more? We just adored Julianne’s Bulgari high jewelry Serpenti necklace with two pear-shaped brilliant emeralds and diamonds totaling 37.04 carats set in white gold.

ARIANA DEBOSE: The returning BAFTA winner chose a high jewelry Serpenti necklace with buff top-cut emerald eyes, rose gold, and a pave set diamond body from Bulgari. DeBose topped off her red carpet look with rose gold and diamond Serpenti Viper earrings.

RAMI MALEK: The BAFTA presenter proved that sometimes all you need is a  diamond brooch, in this case, a Reflection de Cartier one, to make a style impact.

HELEN MIRREN: Diamonds fit for a queen! Mirren, who famously played Queen Elizabeth in the 2006 movie The Queen, took the stage to thank the late monarch for her “loyal support” of the British film industry during Sunday’s awards show wearing David Morris’ white cascading diamond chandelier earrings paired with the London jeweler’s Garden Phoenix ring.

JODIE TURNER-SMITH: The last time we saw this stunning Chopard necklace, featuring over 38 carats of heart-shaped sapphires and over 12 carats of white diamonds, was on Dita Von Teese at Cannes in 2019! Smith, ever the trendsetter, finished the look with “crystal freckles.” and matching earrings.

ANYA TAYLOR-JOY:  A Tiffany & Co. Archives  necklace in gold and diamonds from 1972 hugged the actress’ neck while Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger Two Bees Engagement and Sixteen Stone rings adorned Anya’s fingers. The blue box jeweler’s Knot Double Row hinged bangle and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Secret sparkling diamond watch graced her wrist.

HAYLEY ATWELL: It was refreshing to see Atwell’s $32,500 Cactus de Cartier earrings, each set with 12 brilliant-cut diamonds and a matching necklace on the BAFTA red carpet amongst all the glitzy diamond collars and earrings.

EMMA THOMPSON: While we’re used to seeing flashy diamond jewels on the red carpet, Thompson opted for a suite of Baroque pearl pieces from designer Melanie Georgacopoulos for an equally statement-making effect.

SHEILA ATIM: There was no shortage of sparkle coming from Rising Star Award nominee Sheila Atim who graced the BAFTA red carpet wearing a Chopard necklace of 226.34 carats of heart-shaped diamonds, all set in 18-karat gold from the Haute Joaillerie collection.
